Advocacy Forum-Nepal Supports Juveniles for Successful Social Reintegration
AF has offered financial aid to nine juveniles from different Juvenile Correction Home of Nepal. Among them, three are from Banke, three from Bhaktapur, one from Doti, one from Rupandehi, and one from Hetauda. This financial assistance enables the juveniles to utilize the sum for vocational training, enrolling in schools, or pursuing higher education as they wish once they transition from detention centers into adulthood. By equipping them with essential skills, the constructive activities pave the way for a smoother reintegration process as they become better prepared to thrive in society.
Furthermore, one juvenile from Juvenile Correction Home, Birgunj has received medical support as part of the initiative. This medical assistance ensures that the individual's health needs are addressed, thereby aiding their overall well-being during the reintegration process.
AF’s support for juveniles in education, vocational training, and work opportunities not only normalizes their time in detention but also fosters independence, resilience, and improved mental health. Participation in vocational training programs has been found to reduce depression and other mental health conditions among the detained, as it provides motivation, purpose, and focus. By investing in the social reintegration of these young individuals, they are being given the opportunity to rebuild their lives, become self-sufficient, and contribute positively to society.
This initiative for juveniles was carried out under the project "Enhancing Juvenile Justice System Through Detention Monitoring and Legal Aid" supported by DKA Austria through AF-Nepal.
DKA Austria has consistently supported Advocacy Forum in their efforts to combat torture and other violations against juveniles in police detention centers, while upholding their fair trial rights since 2014.
