AF and AI Urge Nepal Government to End Torture and Ill-treatment
Both the organisations called on the government to put an end to the use of torture as a tool of law enforcement and ensure justice, truth and reparations for victims.
Presenting some emblematic cases of torture in police custody, the organisations recommended the government to amend the Penal Code to bring it in line with international human rights law and standards, including the removal of existing statute of limitation on complaint duration.
They have also urged the government to establish an independent mechanism to monitor and investigate allegations of torture and custodial deaths.
The public statements are available in English and Nepali languages.
