Discussion on Gender Justice and Victims’ Rights in the TRC Law Held
The session focused on unresolved gender-related issues in the new law.
Participants underscored the necessity of adopting a gender-sensitive approach when appointing commissioners to the Commission of Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons and Truth and Reconciliation Commission. They called for proactive engagement with relevant ministries regarding the regulations governing the commissions' work, reportedly being drafted at the moment.
Key discussion points included the significance of a victim-centric approach, the challenge of balancing victim identification with confidentiality and ensuring the safety and security of victims, survivors, and witnesses. The conversation also delved into evidentiary standards in transitional justice, particularly concerning Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV) cases.
Additionally, the meeting outlined preparations for the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (Beijing +30), stressing the need to include victims' groups in these initiatives. The discussion also highlighted the critical importance of integrating the TJ commissions' work with ongoing efforts under NAP-II to enhance efficient and gender-sensitive outcomes in the transitional justice process.
