SC Issues Interim Order against AIG Rana
5 July 2011. Responding to a writ petition filed seeking immediate retracting of the government's decision to promote Kuber Singh Rana to the post of AIG, the Apex Court today issued an interim order barring Rana from discharging his duties as AIG till June 11. Rana is charged of his alleged involvement in the disappearance and subsequent murder of 5 students in Jankapur back on 8 October 2003.

No Legal obstacle to Put Maoist CA Member behind the Bar: SC
26 June 2011. Responding to a writ petition filed on 14 June 2011, the Apex Court has reiterated that there is no obstacle in implementing the court's earlier verdict to incarcerate UCPN-Maoist CA member Balkrishna Dhungel who is convicted in the murder of Ujjen Kumar Shrestha of Okhaldhunga on 24 June 1998.

Women Torture in Detention Continues: AF Report
25 June 2011. A report released by Advocacy Forum on the eve of the UN International Day in Support of Torture Victims -2011 has exposed the failure of the government of Nepal to prevent and protect women from being tortured in detentions, and provide adequate redress to them.
The report was released by Minister of Women, Children and Social Welfare Khadga Bahadur Bishwokarma amidst a program jointly hosted by AF and National Women Commission (NWC).

SC Desists Issuing Interim Order in Minister Sapkota's Case
21 June 2011. Responding to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a group of human rights defenders seeking immediate suspension of incumbent Minister of Information and Communication Agni Sapkota for the latter's involvement in a murder case, the Supreme Court (SC) has today refrained from issuing the interim order as sought by the applicants. However, the verdict has been instrumental in imparting a ray of hope to victims of human rights violations during the conflict by clarifying, among other things, some general misconceptions regarding the transitional justice debate in Nepal.
Review of the UPR recommendations-3 Transitional justice and impunity
21 June 2011. A Joint Statement by the Asian Human Rights Commission and Advocacy Forum. During the interactive dialogue of the Universal Periodic Review, continuous impunity for grave human rights violations had appeared as the major concern of the international community. Peer countries have recalled that continuous impunity undermines respect for the rule of law and hampers the peace-building and democratisation process. In response to those concerns, Nepal expressed its full commitment "to establishing Constitutional supremacy, ensuring the rule of law, good governance and human rights, as well as providing a positive conclusion to the peace process by eliminating insecurity and addressing impunity".

Court Awards Compensation to Torture Survivor
15 June 2011. In its verdict regarding a torture case, the District Court of Dhanusha has today directed the authorities concerned to award torture survivor Santosh Kumar Shah a compensation amounting to NRs. 25,500/- and take departmental action against the perpetrators involved.
