08 Aug 2014: The Supreme Court on 06 August 2014 [2071/04/21] has issued an ordered to release two of the accused of journalist Dakendra Thapa murder case. A Joint Bench of honorable judges Girish Chandra Lal and Davendra Gopal Shrestha ordered to release accused Jaya Bahadur Shahi and Harilal Pun on ordinary bail and prosecute. However, the SC ordered to prosecute other three accused Lachiram Gharti Magar, Bir Bahadur K.C. and Nirak Bahadur Gharti Magar by detaining in jai. They are now detained at District Jail, Dailekha for trial.

08 Aug 2014: Advocacy Forum (AF), organized a four day training on "Documentation and Monitoring Cases of Human Rights Violations" from 02 – 05 August at Dhulikel, Kavrepalanchowk district. In the training national and international experts gave training to the participants on various issues such as: identifying human rights violations, current situation in Terai, documenting human rights abuses, specific rights and available remedies at international level, remedies at national level, engaging with international system-Nepal's experience, preparing communications for the UNSR on torture and UN Working Groups, documenting cases of sexual violence and safety and security protocol etc. During the training sessions, the participants were divided into groups, were given specific situations of human rights violations and were asked to document torture and extrajudicial killing cases. After their presentation the national and international experts commented on their drafts. Likewise, they are asked to draft communications to UNSRs and experts commented on their drafts.

17 Jul 2014: Advocacy Forum (AF) has joined international campaigns on preventing security personnel tainted with human rights violations serving as UN Peacekeepers. A group of human rights organizations from Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Nigeria have joined together and published separate reports on vetting in UN peacekeeping mission. The research was conducted in support of Asian Center for Human Rights (ACHR), New Delhi, India.

11 Jul 2014: Advocacy Forum (AF) has recently published a report "Vetting in Nepal: Challenges and Issues" in support of Asia Center for Human Rights (ACHR). The 109 pages report has analyzed the history of security forces (Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force), their recruitment and promotion, selection criteria for UN Peacekeeping Missions, pre-deployment training, accountability for human rights violations and selection of peacekeepers and existing practices and problems with implementation.

26 June 2014: AF launched its annual torture report entitled "Promising Development – Persisting Challenges: Trends and Patterns in Torture in Nepal During 2013" on 25 June 2014 in Kathmandu. The report has made it public that out of 3,662 detainees interviewed in 2013, 16.7% detainees claimed that they were subjected to torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading during their detention.

05 June 2014: Advocacy Forum (AF), TRIAL (Track Impunity Always) & Redress Trust ("REDRESS") jointly made a submission to the UN Human Rights Committees (HRCs) urging that the recently passed Act on the Commission on Investigation of Disappeared Persons, Truth and Reconciliation 2071 (2014) violates international human rights law and Supreme Court's decision.

3 June 2014: Conflict victims have challenged the lately enacted transitional justice law on grounds that it infringes international human rights law and a ruling of the Supreme Court of 2 January 2014. Altogether 234 victims have lodged a petition demanding to amend the sections that chiefly aim at granting amnesty and forced reconciliation.

13 February 2014: Advocacy Forum (AF), Redress Trust ("REDRESS") and the Association of the Prevention of Torture (APT) today jointly made a submission to the UN Human Rights Committee (HRC) ahead of its 110th session where Nepal's second periodic report under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) will be examined.

27 September 2013: Scrapping the previous stay order decision of the court, a special bench of the Supreme Court of Nepal (SC) yesterday forbade any murder convict from filing candidacy in the Constituent Assembly (CA) election to be held this November. This decision, in effect, upholds the provision in Clause 19(e) of the Election Ordinance that clearly bars any murder convict to become a candidate in the election.
