Stay TRC Ordinance: SC
2 April 2013. Responding to two writ petitions filed separately on 24 March 2013, the Supreme Court (SC) of Nepal has issued a stay order yesterday asking the Chairman of Council of Minister not to form Truth and Reconciliation Commission under the recent TRC Ordinance which empowers the commission to grant amnesty even to those involved in serious human rights violations.

SC Scraps Statute of Limitation and Curbs AG's Discretionary Power
7 March 2013. In a momentous verdict passed yesterday, the Supreme Court (SC) of Nepal has not only declared the non-applicability of statutory limitations for filing complaints vis-à-vis cases of human rights violations at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) but also curtailed the discretionary power enjoyed by the Attorney General (AG) regarding initiating actions over recommendations of prosecution by the commission.

NBA Opposes CJ-led Cabinet

SC Issues Stay Order in Dekendra Case
16 January 2013. Responding to a writ petition that requested an interim order against Prime Minister Baburam Bhattrai and Attorney General (AG) Mukti Pradhan to refrain from stopping investigations into Dekendra Thapa murder case, the Supreme Court (SC) on 15 January 2013 issued a stay order. This order has allowed the Dailekh District Police Office and District Attorney Office to continue with recording the statements of the accused in the case.

Higher Authorities Ask to Stop Investigation in Dekendra Case
9 January 2013. Making its intention clear that justice will not be delivered to conflict victims, UCPN (Maoist) led government has ordered the police and the District Attorney Office, Dailekh to immediately stop all investigations into Dekendra Thapa murder case that occurred eight years ago. The investigation officers have admitted that they are under pressure from higher authorities to stop taking statements from the accused that were arrested on 5 January.
