Letter Submitted to PM Regarding Torture Bill
19 April 2012. Advocacy Forum and REDRESS submitted a joint letter to the Prime Minister regarding the torture bill that is about to be tabled in the parliament. Welcoming the initiative taken by the government in criminalizing torture, the organizations have requested it to make the bill that complies with Nepal’s international obligations to human rights instruments. TRC and DC Should Meet International Standards: NHRC
19 April 2012. National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sent a letter to the government recommending it to form Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and Disappearance Commission (DC) that meet the international standard. In the letter dated 17 April and addressed to the Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, NHRC Chairman Kedarnath Upadhyaya has requested the PM to pay attention to international standard.

Consensus built to table TRC and DC Bills before Parliament
2 April 2012. Possibility to form the much-awaited Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) and Disappearance Commission (DC) has heightened as the top leaders of three major political parties- UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN (UML) - agreed on Saturday to entrust Ministry of Law and Justice with the responsibility to finalize the draft TRC and DC Bills.

Court Awards Compensation
29 March 2012. The District Court of Kathmandu has today issued an order to award torture survivor Mr. Bharat Sharma a compensation amounting to NRs. 20,000/- under the Torture Compensation Act (TCA) 1996. However, the court has refrained from issuing departmental action against the perpetrator because the individual perpetrator was not identified.

DC former Verdict Quashed
29 March 2012. The Patan Appellate Court has today quashed the order of the Kathmandu District Court vis-à-vis case forward of torture survivor Arjun Gurung to the Court Mediation Centre. A joint bench of Justice Aakraj Acharya and Hari Kumar Pokhrel has issued an order to reverse the former order of the district court.

Rape and Torture Victims Demand Justice
27 February 2012. In two recent programs organized by Advocacy Forum (AF) in Surkhet and Kanchanpur districts, women victims of sexual violence and torture demanded that the stakeholders of justice system pay attention to their demands for full justice. Still suffering from physical and psychological scars of the conflict, these victims strongly opposed the government's attitude of excluding them from internal relief they are entitled to.
