Media Roundtable Highlights Urgency of Addressing Conflict-Affected Women's Concerns
The roundtable, emphasised the pressing need for transitional justice (TJ) reforms, particularly in light of the recent amendment bill to the TRC Act.
Dr. Mandira Sharma, Senior International Legal Advisor at the ICJ, underscored the challenges faced by conflict-affected women, urging the media to amplify their voices.
Journalists voiced concerns over the ambiguity in the current bill, especially regarding amnesty provisions and the classification of crimes. They highlighted the discrepancy between registered cases and officially documented instances of violence against women, emphasising the need for comprehensive reporting and sensitivity towards survivors.
The meeting concluded with key suggestions forwarded by the media, including advocating for sustained engagement through similar programmes and organising events with chief editors to ensure continued focus on issues related to conflict-affected women. Participants reiterated their commitment to mainstream the concerns of conflict-affected women in Nepal's transitional justice process.
