Baspani Victims in Kathmandu for Justice

31 December 2012. Families of the victims in Baspani Incident that claimed the lives of three women almost three years ago have urged the government to provide them with justice. In a press meet organized by Advocacy Forum in Kathmandu on 27 December 2012, families of the victims complained that they had not received any compensation and the perpetrators had not been brought to justice till date.

Conflict-era rape case filed with UN

20 December 2012. Advocacy Forum-Nepal (AF) and a UK-based international NGO REDRESS yesterday filed a rape case of the conflict period with the United Nations Human Rights Committee (UNHRC) on behalf of Purna Maya (name changed to protect her privacy), a victim of multiple rapes by the Nepali soldiers. She decided to bring her case at the international level after she failed to achieve justice in Nepal.

Other international online news agencies like ‘France 24’, Lebanon-based news ‘The Daily Star’ Arab news, the Brunei Times etc. have covered the news of the documentary that have focused on the issues of serious human rights violation like torture in Nepal.

AF Nepal Observed 64th International Human Rights Day

13 December 2012. Advocacy Forum Nepal (AF) observed the 64th International Human Rights Day by organizing joint programs with various human rights organizations. On the occasion, AF regional and district offices also took a lead role in various human rights related programs. Programs like blood donation, interaction, morning procession, peace rallies, candle lightening, football tournament, documentary screening, photo exhibition etc. were organized in various AF working districts.

AF Documentary on HR Violations Screened in International Training

12 December 2012. Commemorating the 64th International Human Rights Day, Advocacy Forum (AF) screened its two documentaries "The Last Massage" and "The Resurrected” on 10 December among the participants from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The documentaries were screened in a South Asian International Training on ‘Non-violent Conflict Transformation’ organized by BIKALPA-Nepal and Kurve, Wustrow. Both the documentaries have covered the issues of serious human rights violations like enforced disappearance and torture in Nepal.

Advocacy Forum (AF) organized a three-day medico-legal workshop on December 1, 2 and 3 in Kathmandu, aiming to build capacity of doctors, judges, police officials, government attorneys and defense lawyers regarding preparation of well-documented medico-legal reports. It was the third workshop on medico-legal documentation in the current fiscal year.
