AF's Consultations on HR and Impunity-Victims Worried about State's Indifference
2 July 2012. In a series of consultations hosted in 16 working districts of Advocacy Forum (AF) throughout June, victims of human rights violations (HRVs) expressed their concern over state's indifference to ensuring them justice and addressing the endemic impunity ailing the country. The consultation entitled "Human Rights and Impunity: How to Ensure Victims' Access to Justice?" comprised the stakeholders of criminal justice system, victims of HRVs and the representatives of different state agencies, including the National Human Rights Commission(NHRC).

Inquiry Commissions Instituting Impunity: Report
2 July 2012. A report by International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) unveiled on 28 June in Kathmandu has revealed that different inquiry commissions have proven ineffective. Advocacy Forum (AF) and ICJ jointly released the report entitled "Commissions of Inquiry in Nepal: Denying Remedies, Entrenching Impunity" amidst a special ceremony.

Woman Torture Victims Waiting for Justice
28 June 2012. In various programs organized by regional and district offices of Advocacy Forum (AF) observing the UN International Day in Support of Torture Victims-2012, many woman victims of torture and sexual violence requested the stakeholders concerned to address their problem without further delay. A lot of victims were concerned that the incidents of torture and sexual violence have continued even after the end the conflict and that they were deprived of effective remedy and redress.

Torture on Women Continues: AF Report
25 June 2012. A report released by Advocacy Forum (AF) on the eve of the UN International Day in Support of Torture Victims -2012 has exposed the continued rise of torture on women in police detention facilities and has also pointed at the government's failure to address the needs of women's torture victims despite its repeated commitments in various international forums to do so. The report was released by Kalpana Bhandari, a torture survivor at the hands of the police in 2007.

AF and REDRESS Strategic Workshop on GBV Litigation
21 June 2012. In a context where thousands of sexual and gender based violence victims are deprived of justice, owing to flaws and lacunae prevalent in the existing legal systems, Advocacy Forum (AF) and REDRESS jointly organized a two-day strategic workshop on June 18 and 19 so as to seek avenues of justice, both in domestic and international mechanisms. The workshop was facilitated by Vandana Nainar, an independent consultant and Sarah Fulton of REDRESS.

Ajit Kumar goes Missing: Subject to Enforced Disappearance
21 June 2012. Ajit Kumar Lal Karna, a college student, aged 26, resident of Jaleshwor Municipality Ward No-5, Mahottari, was reportedly arrested from his home at around 6:30 pm by the team of police, including local police, led by DSP Bhupendra Khatri deployed from Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) on 6th May, 2012. He was allegedly arrested on the accusation of having his involvement in Janakpur Bomb Blast which took place on 30 April that killed five people and injured more than 30. But the family members claim that Ajit Kumar does not have any connection with that incident and also state that Ajit was arrested from his bed on his sickness. But the police have denied arresting Ajit Kumar. His whereabouts is unknown to date.

AF and ALRC submit statement to Human Rights Council
7 June 2012. Advocacy Forum (AF) and The Asian Legal Resource Centre (ALRC) jointly submitted a written statement under Agenda Item 4, General Debate to the Twentieth Session of Human Rights Council on 05 June 2012 drawing the attention of the latter on the recently developed political incidents in Nepal including the term expiry of the CA and its repercussion on human rights situation and peace process.

AF's Campaign against Torture Applauded
25 April 2012. The Oxford Journals of Human Rights Practice, the online journal of the University of Oxford, published an online article on 11 April 2012 acknowledging the activities like prevention of torture, illegal detention and other human rights violations carried out under the aegis of Advocacy Forum (AF). The article has thoroughly put in a nutshell AF's intervention approach since its inception against torture practices in Nepal. The article has dubbed AF's torture prevention model as an "effective intervention strategy" and ideal for "other NGOs and human rights practitioners around the world to devise their own effective torture prevention strategy".
