AF Releases Report Demanding Clear Policy on Exhumation

29 August 2011. Advocacy Forum (AF) and INSEC have released two reports on disappearance on the event of International Day for the Commemoration of Disappeared People. AF's research report, published both in English and Nepali, "Exhumation of bodies of the disappeared - in need of a policy framework" and INSEC's report "Profile of Disappeared Persons" were released in a ceremony by disappearance victim's family members. Torture Compensation Case filed against Police

Harkali Pun alias Duji has filed a torture compensation case today against the District Police Office (DPO) of Banke claiming physical and mental torture by the police during interrogation. HR Defenders Demand Action against Culprits of Doramba Massacre

17 August 2011. Calling for a prompt legal action against those involved in a cold blooded killing of 19 Maoist activists at Doramba of Ramechhap district eight years ago, a group of human rights defenders have jointly issued a press release today on behalf of Accountability Watch Committee (AWC), a loose forum of human rights defenders. HR defenders have also drawn the attention of the government vis-à-vis the report of Doramba massacre submitted by the Human Rights Committee and demanded that the government implement the report of the Committee without further ado. SC Orders to Continue Custody of Kaji Karki to Advance Investigation

15 August 2011. In its verdict passed today, upholding the decision of District Court, Kavre, and quashing the writ of habeas corpus lodged at the Supreme Court by Kaji, the Supreme Court has ruled to continue the custody of Kaji Karki for further investigation. Kaji, an ex-Junior army staff, is charged for his alleged involvement in the murder of Reena Rasaili on February 2004.

DPO Registers FIR

7 August 2011. The District Police Office (DPO) of Ramechhap today finally responded to the mandamus order of the Appellate Court of Janakpur issued on 2 November 2010 in which the court had ordered the DPO to register the FIR and initiate prompt investigation vis-à-vis the arrest and subsequent killing of 5 people back on 24 Oct 2002. All of them were allegedly charged of being Maoists.

Memo Submitted to Take Action against Culprits of Kapilvastu Riots

26 July 2010. In the presence of CA members, representatives of different political parties, victims and stakeholders from Kapilvastu District, Advocacy Forum (AF) and Accountability Watch Committee-Kapilvastu (AWC), a loose forum of human rights defenders in Kapilvastu District, have jointly submitted a memorandum today to Prime Minister's Office demanding immediate action against the perpetrators of Kapilvastu Massacre and adequate redress to victims.

20 July 2011. The District Police Office (DPO) and the District Administration Office (DAO) of Dhading have today flatly denied registering an FIR vis-à-vis the murder of Goma Koirala by some Maoist cadres during the conflict.

SC Orders to Continue Investigation on AIG Rana's Case

12 July 2011. In its verdict passed today, the Supreme Court (SC) has today issued an order to continue investigation on the case related to AIG Kuber Singh Rana who was promoted to the post of AIG by the government on 23 June 2011. Rana is charged of his alleged involvement in the disappearance and subsequent killing of 5 students in janakpur on 8 October 2003.

Court Awards Torture Compensation to HRD

10 July 2011. The District Court of Dhanusha has today issued an order to award torture survivor Raj Kumar Mahaseth a compensation amounting to NRs 25,000/- However, the Court has refrained from issuing departmental action as the perpetrator was not identified.
