14 May 2013. In its torture briefing of July-Dec 2012, Advocacy Forum (AF) has analyzed the trends and patterns of torture practices in police detention facilities. The briefing has shown a slight reduction of torture percentage compared to that of the previous six months, i.e. Jan-June 2012; however, the prevalence of torture stands above the average percentage recorded by AF over the period of 2008-2010.

16 April 2013. "The Last Message", a documentary produced by Advocacy Forum (AF), has been awarded with the highest prize on 14 April 2013 at Kathmandu Short Film Festival. Ganesh Pandey, director of the documentary and media officer at AF, received the award.

2 April 2013. Responding to two writ petitions filed separately on 24 March 2013, the Supreme Court (SC) of Nepal has issued a stay order yesterday asking the Chairman of Council of Minister not to form Truth and Reconciliation Commission under the recent TRC Ordinance which empowers the commission to grant amnesty even to those involved in serious human rights violations.

7 March 2013. URGENT APPEAL - THE OBSERVATORY
The Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, a joint programme of the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT) and the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), requests your urgent intervention on the following situation in Nepal.

7 March 2013. In a momentous verdict passed yesterday, the Supreme Court (SC) of Nepal has not only declared the non-applicability of statutory limitations for filing complaints vis-à-vis cases of human rights violations at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) but also curtailed the discretionary power enjoyed by the Attorney General (AG) regarding initiating actions over recommendations of prosecution by the commission.

28 February 2013. In its press release of 26 February the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) has once again taken strong exception to the proposal of major political parties to appoint the sitting Right Honorable Chief Justice as the head of the Executive. The press release has also contended the recent press release of the Supreme Court that spoke officially about the position of the Chief Justice in relation to the parties' proposal.

11 February 2013. Marking the organization's 12th anniversary, Advocacy Forum (AF) Nepal organised its annual general meeting on 9 February on the AF central office premises. Human rights defenders from different organizations attended the program and lauded AF for fearlessly carrying out substantive actions to uphold human rights in the country.

1 February 2013. The District Court of Dailekh ordered five accused in Dekendra Thapa murder case to be sent to prison for awaiting further trial.

25 January 2013. Today police arrested and manhandled protestors that were peacefully participating in a movement against impunity entitled "Occupy Baluwatar" which has been going on for a month. Rights activist Bhakti Sah got seriously injured from the police onslaught.

16 January 2013. Responding to a writ petition that requested an interim order against Prime Minister Baburam Bhattrai and Attorney General (AG) Mukti Pradhan to refrain from stopping investigations into Dekendra Thapa murder case, the Supreme Court (SC) on 15 January 2013 issued a stay order. This order has allowed the Dailekh District Police Office and District Attorney Office to continue with recording the statements of the accused in the case.
